David Backhouse is a highly experienced governor with more than 30 years’ distinguished service chairing governing bodies in both the primary and secondary sector. His advice and counsel are regularly sought by senior officers across several local authorities and until recently David chaired the Schools Forum in Redbridge.
He was appointed by the Secretary of State for Education to support a primary school in Barking and Dagenham and his work there as the vice-chair of the IEB was invaluable in developing school leadership and securing a ‘good’ Ofsted judgement.
David is very knowledgeable in most aspects of governance and has earnt a reputation of being unscrupulously fair when dealing with even the most complex of cases arising in schools. He is an experienced investigator and has chaired many panels in relation to exclusions, discipline and complaints.
David Backhouse is now retired having spent his professional career in engineering and planning roles in the telecoms industry.
